International Festival of Art, Science and Technologies
The Photosíntesis Festival 2025 is an international gathering of art, science, and technologies held in the city of Medellín. The event explores creative proposals that address global challenges related to environmental care and interspecies relationships.
Artists, scientists, researchers, knowledge holders, and wisdom keepers come together to reflect on human and non-human eco-existence through the creation of experiences that connect artistic, scientific, and technological processes.
The festival's program offers diverse meetings and artistic showcases in the northern area of Medellín. Its goal is to foster the social appropriation of science through shared spaces of reflection, including installations, exhibitions, sound and audiovisual experiences, concerts, biodiversity walks, scientific monologues, conferences, workshops, laboratories, and residencies.
Photosynthesis offers an unusual combination of disciplines that move and connect audiences with experiences of research, creation, and circulation. These proposals are presented by national and international guests who imagine new paradigms for caring for life and strengthening interspecies relations.
The Photosíntesis Festival arrives in the northern area of Medellín with installations and artistic exhibitions, city events, concerts, and knowledge encounters. Its programming will take place at Parque Explora , the Planetarium , the Botanical Garden , Pedro Nel Gómez Museum , San Pedro Cemetery Museum , Parque de los Deseos , exhibition spaces at Comfama , MOVA , University of Antioquia , the House of Music , Moravia , among others.
The purpose of this festival is to offer the city an opportunity to reflect on urgent challenges: its ecological fragility and the complex relationship of the human species with other forms of life. It is essential to recognize the contribution of both emerging and traditional technologies, which major—or may not—help build better ecological, social, and cultural practices.
Our methodology is to engage young artists, science and research professionals, wisdom keepers, students, educators, families, and the general public in a conversation about the vulnerability of eco-existence, in spaces that make it visible and interpretable.
This is what we ask ourselves at Photosynthesis 2025
Is it possible to imagine other forms of ECO-EXISTENCE?
Amid the climate and ecosocial urgency, and the technological vertigo, the Photosynthesis Festival becomes a laboratory of processes and experimentations where art, science, and technology intertwine to test possible alliances for planetary care. The diverse proposals function as sensitive prototypes that invite us, collectively and actively, to question our terrestrial future:
✨ CONSTELLATING OTHER WORLDS – Environmental Poetics
Generate dialogues about the interdependence of living beings and the importance of biodiversity.
🌱 FERTILIZING THE FUTURE – Aesthetics of Decomposition and Regeneration
Critically reflect on the fragility of ecosystems in the face of the climate crisis and regeneration through speculative fictions and alternative imaginaries.
🐝 CROSS-POLLINATION – Territories and Care
A call to rethink our relationships with territory, recognizing the value of cultural diversity in the search for conscious solutions to current environmental challenges.
